Adding a post in wordpress is so easy; you’ll ask yourself why you haven’t converted already.
Just a note, the process of adding a post is basically the same for adding a page in wordpress. There’s  an extra step for the Thesis theme when creating pages to be included in the main menu; I show that as a last step in this tutorial. Let’s go add a post!

First, login and at the left-hand side of your dashboard, you will see the wordpress admin editing and configuration menus. I basically go by the rule of thumb that there are 3 ways to get where you need to be in wordpress. Now that you’re logged into wordpress,  here are 3 examples to get you to the Post Editing Page.

Example #1:

Click on Posts.

After clicking on Posts; on the next screen choose Add New.

Example #2:

Click on the Posts dropdown menu and Add New.

Example #3:

This is just an extra tip to throw in as an example.

Right-click on Posts and open in a new tab/window. You will find that sometimes, you need to work in two windows.

Post Editing Page

Ok, assuming that you’ve made it to the Post Editing Page, it’s time to begin writing a post! As you can see, I’ve marked a few places of importance for you:

Where to add your title.

Make sure to include the keywords relevant to your post. This will help the search engines to index this post for search inquiries.

Saving as a draft post.

Before you actually publish your post, you want to save as a draft. We don’t want google to crawl an unfinished post until you’re ready. You can even set a schedule for when you want this post to automatically publish, more on that later…

The Visual Tab/Mode

The visual tab/mode is what is referred to as WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). There are two different tabs (modes) you can work within; the Visual mode and HTML mode. You can switch back and forth as needed for editing. It can be a little tricky sometimes working with images, and the HTML view can help with that. I’ll add another article for this in the near future, but for now, we’ll stay in the Visual Mode.

Extra Step (adding a page) for Thesis theme.

This additional step is only neccessary for when you are adding another page to your main menu. The default WordPress installation will automatically include any page you add to your website’s main menu. The bottom line is; a hundred pages won’t fit in the main menu! If you are not using Thesis, you would need to add at least 2 other plugins to remedy this situation. Exclude Pages and Simple Page Ordering are the plugins you would need for almost any other WordPress theme. Some themes will have these features pre-installed, Thesis makes it easy for you.

From your dashboard, go to the Thesis dropdown and click on Site Options.

From the Thesis Navigation Menu (Pages Dropdown) you then select the pages you want to include in your nav menu and also you can change the order of those pages in your main menu. Select the green “Big Save Button” to save your changes.
